I’m Melissa Lloyd.
I’m a designer, an artist, a daughter, a wife, a mother, a friend, and a woman who is usually moving too fast and in too many directions. I’m guessing you can relate to the moving too fast and in too many directions part. Seems like everyone is on the fast track these days.
My fast track had gotten out of hand and I was feeling burnt out, a bit empty, and directionless. I decided it was time to take some time for me, to try to relax, reset, and find some clarity.
While I knew I needed a change, the thought terrified me! How can someone who’s used to flying at the speed of light bring things down to cruise control? How can I shake the pressure of trying to be perfect and and just be ME?
So I picked up a pen. Reluctantly at first, as it had been so long since I just was an ‘artist’, and the fear of judgement felt close and raw.
I started to doodle.
I discovered how non-judgemental doodling is, how it acts as a gateway to your subconscious, and is a kind of exercise in mindfulness. Anything goes in doodling!
Over the next month I doodled while I listened to music, I doodled watching Netflix, I sometimes doodled into the wee hours of the morning. It was something I just found myself getting lost in.
It was amazing the profound effect this had on me mentally. It brought an incredible amount of calm. And then it dawned on me, “There is more!”
With my new perspective, everywhere I looked there were things around me that pointed to the conversation about taking time for you, doodling, and the incredible benefits of inviting more creativity in your life.
I learned more about the astounding benefits of creativity:
- Predicts a longer life and reduces stress
- Frees your thoughts
- Promotes individualism and builds towards an authentic self
- Makes you a better problem solver in all areas of your life
- Promotes having fun
- Allows you to face your fears
- Builds confidence and self-acceptance.
- Makes you happier
So I created DOODLE Lovely to encourage people to stop, even for just 5 minutes a day, to explore their own creative spirit and rediscover how to be the leader of their own lives.
The products are about calm, clarity, creativity, and confidence (even when you might be feeling burnt out!) The focus is on you.
I won’t pretend that I have life all figured out, but I just want to share what has helped me feel happier, more focused, and more like the real me.
This artful wander is just beginning. I hope you’ll join me as we see where the path of creativity takes us. Help me spread the word that everyone has a creative spirit inside just waiting to see the light.
