Harbourside Designs – Hand-stamped clay tags & other whimsies
When birthdays, Christmas or other special events come around, I like to add a special handmade touch to gifts. My hand stamped clay tags are a result of one holiday season when I made a slew of tags to embellish presents. Over the past couple of years, I have refined my technique and now hand carve almost all of the rubber stamps that are used to imprint the clay.
My favorite tags are inspired by the ocean and feature words that motivate me. I am an avid beach goer, even on cold, windy days. My stockpile of driftwood is put to use in creating wall hangings with the tags.

Each tag is a labour of love, requiring kneading, rolling, forming, cutting and stamping. After the tags are thoroughly dry, I sand each one individually (this is not my favorite part!) then coat them lightly with varnish. Once the varnish dries, the tags are strung with jute or hemp.
