Kingross Quilts and Fibre Art
Kingross Quilts and Fibre Arts – Studio of international award winning artist Anne Morrell Robinson located in Big Intervale overlooking the Margaree River in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia – Canada. The Glass Artisans Studio & Galleryis open year-round by appointment or by chance. An ever changing supply of fine quilts, primitive hooked rugs, wearable art and dolls are available for purchase. Kingross Quilts and Fibre Arts also hosts small retreats, private and group workshops and classes.
Anne has been making quilts since 1971 and has made over 500 to date. Many have been commissioned for both public places and private homes. Her speciality is applique quilts with nature being a strong element. Traditional patterns often blend together with original designs in each unique piece. Her hooked rugs are done in the wide cut primitive technique and feature original designs with a hint of whimsy and humor. Clothing, floor cloths and dolls are constructed when the artist is in need of some "play time". Anne also likes to share her passion for the fibre arts with others and travels to national conferences, guilds or schools to teach. She designs her own patterns, which have been published in books and magazines or to use in her classes.

KingRoss Quilts and Fibre Arts had a modest start; a young farm woman using the corner of a bedroom for making quilts to sell to friends and neighbours. As word got out and the demand grew a studio was added to the old farm house.
Today the studio is housed in another addition to the house that contains marketing space and working space for both Anne and her students. Visitors from all over the world enjoy seeing all the work available to purchase as well as seeing where and how it is made. There is a very large selection of both wall and bed quilts available for sale and Anne is happy to do a commissioned piece.
Yes, it is off the beaten path and you do have to drive almost 12km on a gravel road but when you are almost there and the valley starts to open up into the Big Intervale and Kingross area you will realize you are in a very special and beautiful part of Cape Breton.
The studio is open year round but it is best to call or email ahead to be sure it’s open when you would like to visit. Sometimes life just gets in the way or there is someplace else we have to be that day. Cell phones don’t work in this area yet and please, please, please, DO NOT rely on your GPS to find us. Use the provided directions. We have signs along the way as does the Big Intervale Fishing Lodge which is just beyond us and is a great place to spend the night or grab an excellent meal.
If you are so inclined; bring your bike, your fly rod, a canoe or your hiking boots and make a day of exploring the area. We would be happy to point you in the right direction.
